ICHIP - Crypto Currency Working Group (CCWG)
Published
Our most international course this year, the Crypto Currency Working Group (CCWG), concluded today
Led by the International Computer Hacking Intellectual Property (ICHIP) Attorney Advisor, the CCWG workshop spanned five days and served as a regional program to enhance the capacity of prosecutors, investigators, and regulators in combating cryptocurrency-enabled crimes. Through case-based mentoring and training, participants gained insights into the use of blockchain analysis
tools, strategies for obtaining customer data from virtual asset service providers, and considerations for asset forfeiture. With the surge in criminal misuse of cryptocurrency and the growing vulnerabilities surrounding virtual assets, it is crucial for criminal justice officials to stay current on various virtual currencies—identifying, tracing, freezing, and seizing—while fostering transnational coordination and cooperation.
The Working Group not only provided a substantive information-sharing platform for cryptocurrency investigations but also served as a vehicle to disseminate cutting-edge information on investigative and prosecutorial best practices in criminal cases involving virtual assets. Furthermore, train-the-trainer modules were delivered, enabling participants to share their newfound knowledge with colleagues and enhance cryptocurrency investigation techniques.
