On July 25, we said good bye to ILEA Budapest Director and FBI SSA Angela Brueckman. Director Brueckman served as ILEA Director between July 2019 and July 2022. The past three years were without a doubt the most difficult and strange period in ILEA’s existence. In February 2020, we were excitedly preparing for our 25th Anniversary, which we needed to cancel not more than 2 weeks later along with all the courses and events we planned for the year. Things changed fast, we needed to make hard decisions regarding the style of our operations (home office), the courses (virtual Zoom instructions), and how to best use the unwanted emptiness of the ILEA facility to still be able to add value every day as much as it was possible. It is not an overstatement to say that Director Brueckman made the most of this hard period. She not only made sure that the region’s law enforcement professionals were not left without education, but also used this time to have the whole classroom floor renovated with brand new style and equipment. Thanks to her efforts, the students could return this year to a much more modern and professional training environment. She did all this while not forgetting to keep her staff together and motivated, even though Covid challenged everyone in the world on so many levels.
The new (Covid) form of greeting “Stay healthy!” got inextricably linked with her name, as well as the Commemorative Stone at the entrance of the facility, which she dedicated to our Hungarian partner institute, the International Training Centre.
